Compressible 2 D MHD modelling of prominence dips

چکیده
An analytical MHD model of a normal-polarity prominence with com-pressible flow is presented. The exact solution is constructed via a systematic nonlinear separation of variables method used to calculate several classes of MHD equilibria in Cartesian geometry and uniform gravity. Although the model is 2D, a third magnetic/velocity vector field component is included and the highly sheared fields observed in prominences are reproduced. A description is given of the balance of gas pressure gradient with gravity and the Lorentz or inertial forces acting along and across the prominence. It is found that the flow does not significantly influence the heating profile. The analyzed model has dimensions, plasma density , temperature and velocity profiles which agree with those in the observations literature.

Magnetic Dips in Prominences
Magnetic dips are generally assumed to be basic equilibrium con-gurations in quiescent solar prominences. Here we discuss two types of the magnetic dips which were considered in the literature: (1) dips resulting from a force-free magnetic equilibrium in the corona, and (2) magnetic dips which are formed in situations where the Lorentz force balances the weight of the prominence plasma. An impo...
متن کاملCompressible Mhd Turbulence: Mode Coupling, Anisotropies and Scalings
Compressible turbulence, especially the magnetized version of it, traditionally has a bad reputation with researchers. However, recent progress in theoretical understanding of incompressible MHD as well as that in computational capabilities enabled researchers to obtain scaling relations for compressible MHD turbulence. We discuss scalings of Alfven, fast, and slow modes in both magnetically do...
متن کاملGeneration of Compressible Modes in MHD Turbulence
Astrophysical turbulence is magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) in its nature. We discuss fundamental properties of MHD turbulence. In particular, we discuss the generation of compressible MHD waves by Alfvenic turbulence and show that this process is inefficient. This allows us to study the evolution of different types of MHD perturbations separately. We describe how to separate MHD fluctuations into 3 ...

Abstract. We present a finite volume scheme for ideal compressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations on 2-D Cartesian meshes. The semi-discrete scheme is constructed to be entropy stable by using the symmetrized version of the equations as introduced by Godunov. We first construct an entropy conservative scheme for which su cient condition is given and we also derive a numerical flux satisfyi...
متن کاملBasic Properties of Compressible MHD Turbulence: Implications for Molecular Clouds
Recent advances in understanding of the basic properties of compressible Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence call for revisions of some of the generally accepted concepts. First, MHD turbulence is not so messy as it is usually believed. In fact, the notion of strong non-linear coupling of compressible and incompressible motions is not tenable. Alfven, slow and fast modes of MHD turbulence foll...
